2019 witnessed Hewlett-Packard (HP) holding on to its leadership position as far as the Hardcopy Peripherals (HCP) market in India is concerned. This can be majorly attributed to the high sales of Ink Tank printers. According to International Data Corporation, HP got a market share of 39.1% in the calendar year 2019. It is also interesting to note that strong channel schemes and end-user promotions led to the growth of HP’s Ink Tank shipment by 14% (year-on-year). Also, strong channel push boosted HP’s share in the copier segment by 29.4% (year-on-year).
Talking about the other players in the market, Epson maintained its second position with 26.8% market share while 19.9% market share was registered by Canon. The latter also enjoyed a strong growth of 15.7% in the Ink Tank segment. Overall, the India HCP market shipped 3.5 million units in 2019 and registered a year-on-year decline of 4.7%, for which weak consumer segment demand is being held responsible. As reported by the latest “IDC Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy peripherals Tracker, 4Q19, in the fourth quarter of 2019, the market shipped 0.79 million units, a year-on-year decline of 7.3%.
